LACTATION REVIEWS

“Rachael saved my sanity postpartum! I am a first time mom who was passionate about wanting to breastfeed. I wasn’t sure if I was doing anything right at all. I had a text consultation with Rachael late one night and she gave me support until almost midnight when I was having a hard time. I quickly made an appointment with her for breastfeeding support and she listened to my concerns but most importantly gave me support and knowledge regarding lactation and breastfeeding as a whole. I went in to that appointment ready to give up and came out empowered and excited about this journey with my daughter. We are now 7 months in and still going strong breastfeeding! Rachael continuously checks in with me and empowers me every time. I 10/10 recommend using her for any lactation support/education needed.”

“I reached out to Rachael at Sage Wellness Co. being a first time mama to get some peace of mind for myself prior to childbirth. Rachael listened to all my concerns and gave me tips (ex: how your breasts should feel while breastfeeding). We went over possible problems one may go through in the first few weeks of breastfeeding and she offered even doing a home visit after delivery. One week postpartum I reached out to Rachael because I was having trouble with my little one latching on one side. Rachael came to my home the next day and sure enough I had a clogged duct and she helped me hand express it out! Rachael encouraged me and lifted me up at such a vulnerable time in motherhood. I felt so much better after visiting with her. A couple of months later, I met with Rachael again to discuss pumping and returning back to work schedule. She measured my nipples for flange sizes and once again went above and beyond to answer any questions I had. Breastfeeding has been such a joy for me and my baby. We are so grateful for Rachael’s advice and support on this journey! My goal is to nurse for a year and I have no doubt I’ll be able to thanks to Rachael’s help.”

“I knew I wanted to breastfeed long before I ever held my baby in my arms. The benefits for mom and baby are just too incredible to ignore. However, wanting to and actually doing something are two different things! I was so blessed to have Rachael by my side through this process. She has been there from my very first latch to help me and my sweet babe through it all. It’s definitely hard work but when you have the support & encouragement of a loving and knowledgeable CLC, stress turns to peace. We have loved breastfeeding and are forever thankful that we had Rachael to guide us on this journey!”

BIRTH STORIES

“Our family was so blessed to find Kizie when our entire birth plan changed about a month before Eden Mable made her arrival. The care we received with Kizie was like nothing we ever experienced. During our first home visit with her, she took more time with us than all of our previous doctors visits combined! She helped reposition Eden when her position wasn’t ideal for birth, answered countless texts from me thinking I was about to be in labor, and truly empowered us as a family that our home birth would be beautiful, and it was! Even during a moment of worry closer to the end of labor, she made me feel safe and comfortable to push through. Our care postpartum was just as amazing and something I never knew we could benefit from so much. I could never thank Kizie enough for all her care and support. She is a godsend!“

“With the birth of my third, I knew I wanted a homebirth and Kizie provided me the opportunity and I am so grateful for that! Even though I went to 42 weeks and almost risked out of homebirth, kizie was super helpful and knowledgeable in suggesting things to do before that happened. Our little girl came fast and furious on the last possible day after a 3 hour labor, big and chubby and healthy!”

“Our experience with Kizie was absolutely incredible. From the very beginning, she made us feel comfortable, safe, and empowered us with so much knowledge. This really helped to settle my husband who was a little apprehensive about home birth in the beginning.

This was my first birth and Kizie helped to remove so much fear by being so sure and calm about everything throughout the process. As someone who had at least a million questions and concerns, I truly appreciated that she never made me feel like any concern was too small or too silly. She was very professional in the most loving way.

Fast forward to my birth! I was super surprised when my water broke at 37 weeks & 5 days because I was sure I would go past 40 weeks since this was my first! That was God reminding me that’s it’s all in His timing . I woke up to a huge gush on the floor at 5:30 am. My husband immediately woke up and said “what do I do?!” and I shouted “get a towel!” I called Kizie immediately and filled her in on the details. She told me to get some rest and to keep her updated. Again, she was so cool, calm & collected which was extra helpful because it can be hard to think straight when you’re that excited! After all, I was finally going to meet my baby! I spent the day running around getting my house fully set up for the birth (I was still missing some things since it was over two weeks early!), and updating Kizie on any changes. By 11 pm that night, I gave up on the idea of having my baby that day. It was like a big game of hurry up and wait. My body just wasn’t doing anything (or so I thought). I had my first set of contractions around 2 in the morning, but I was able to sleep through them and by 4 in the morning, they had stopped. I was feeling discouraged, but tried to be grateful that I’d had one more night of rest. The next morning Kizie came over and talked with me about everything. We talked about the possibility of a hospital transfer by the next morning if I hadn’t made it to active labor. She explained this would still be my choice, but I trusted that if it was her suggestion, it was the right one. Knowing I wanted to birth at home, she gave me some things to naturally induce labor. I took castor oil and repeated the miles circuit throughout the day. Thankfully by 3 pm I finally had contractions going and they weren’t stopping! That evening my best friend Rachael came to stay with me. This was such a comfort to me as I knew she’d be an amazing birth assistant and she had given birth twice before so I fully trusted she would help guide me and my husband (who may have been more nervous than I was ). Once Rachael arrived, Kizie gave us strict instructions that this would not be a ‘girls night’ and that I needed to focus on having this baby. We giggled but she was definitely right. I needed her to remind me that so much of birth is mental and I definitely wanted to give it my all. Over the next few hours my contractions continued to intensify. By midnight Rachael called Kizie to let her know to come. Kizie arrived and checked my cervix. Another false alarm. I was only 6 cm and not quite in active labor yet. Kizie let me know that if I hadn’t had my baby by 6 am, it would be time to transfer. She suggested another dose of castor oil & as much rest as possible. My husband mixed the oil into a protein shake for me & I did my best to down it. I threw up almost instantly, and this was when I broke down, emotionally. I wanted to birth at home so badly and I felt so helpless. Rachael came in to hug me and helped to talk me down. I grabbed water & a toothbrush and was ready to try the rest of the oil. I quickly drank it & brushed my teeth immediately to try to keep it down. Thankfully it worked & I did my best to get some rest between contractions. I dozed off and lost track of time until about 3 am. This was when things really got moving and the contractions were so much stronger. I got in the shower and labored in there for the next hour and a half. Rachael had Kizie on the phone and she was on her way back to us. At one point I was really losing control and Kizie firmly said “If you can’t get your breathing under control and focus, we are going to call 911.” This brought me back to reality and I was able to breathe through the pain and sensations I was feeling. Kizie arrived and I moved out of the shower. There was no time to set up the birth pool because it was just about time to push! “Finally!” I thought to myself. We moved to the floor and with one foot planted and the other knee on the ground, it was time. I clung onto my husband and listened as Kizie coached me through the pushing process. I worked with my contractions and after just a few minutes, he was here! Thomas Christian was officially born at 6:12 am at 6lbs 13oz. I was in love. I kept joking that Kizie should have just given me a deadline earlier. We rested for the next hour with skin to skin & I just felt so amazed by what had just happened.

The next few hours and days we were so cared for. Kizie followed up with us and took care of every concern along the way. We are forever grateful that God brought Kizie into our lives and that she so brilliantly walks out the calling He has for her life. She has been such a blessing to us and to so many others. I know we will be looking forward to any future babies and she will definitely be the first person we call!”

“I was in between moving states while pregnant. We found Kizie-Peaceful Breath Midwifery; from a recommendation from a family member. Kizie was very willing to see us despite me already being 7 months pregnant. When the contractions started, Kizie showed up at our house to check in. Unfortunately, there ended up being complications (meconium) during labor so we had to go to a hospital for the actual birth. But Kizie was very helpful giving advice during the long hours leading up to going to the hospital. Once our son was born, she came back for several follow up visits. Kizie always made sure our questions were answered and was very sweet and kind. Would definitely recommend for expecting mamas!”

“I had, what I thought, were Braxton hicks contractions all day. By 2:00pm they were not painful but coming pretty often accompanied by many trips to the bathroom. When I wasn’t able to talk through them we decided to track them on the app. They were 60 seconds long and 3-5 minutes apart and it said to go to the hospital. As we were doing a home birth, I just put on comfy clothes and leaned and rocked over the counter when each contraction came. Within the hour it went from zero to 100! I got in the tub and found relief by rocking on my hands and knees for a good bit. When I got too tired, I went to the room we had set up and layed down inbetween contractions. I used the silence and my breathing and tried to surrender to labor. It went by so fast just counting each breath and resting till the next surge came. I think breathing was the most important thing for me.
When Kizie arrived she checked me and I was at 8 centimeters so I got into the birthing pool. I had gone through transition but my water still hadn’t broken. The couple hours I pushed I was more in my body and aware that baby would be here soon. When in the pool and pushing I felt a pop and my water finally broke. The pressure intensified and shortly after our daughter was born!
Kizie and her team helped me feel safe and calm throughout the birth and after. I felt taken care of in every way and am looking forward to having her help with our next child!
Thank you Kizie”
